A mighty fortress constructed by Melkor under the Iron Mountains in the earliest years of the world, Angband was made as an outlying citadel to the northern stronghold of Utumno. Angband1 is a free, single-player dungeon exploration game where you take the role of an adventurer, exploring a deep dungeon, fighting monsters, and acquiring the best weaponry you can, in preparation for a final battle with Morgoth, the Lord of Darkness. Angband is a third-generation roguelike game. These maps are not necessarily consistent with the published text of The Silmarillion and are most certainly NOT consistent with the published text (in any edition) of The Lord of the Rings.
